3D Part Design

Bring a broken part, measurements, or a rough sketch. I'll turn it into a clean, ready-to-print 3D model.

3D Design & Modeling

Need a part that does not exist yet, or one that is no longer made? I can turn your measurements, photos, or rough sketches into a 3D model ready for printing. Great for brackets, clips, knobs, small enclosures, and other one-off pieces.

Replace Broken or Missing Parts

Bring the broken part, or the spot where it used to live, and I will recreate it in 3D. I measure, tweak, and test the design so it fits as well as, or better than, the original. Especially useful for older gear and hard-to-find plastic bits.

Fit, Test, and Prepare for Printing

Once the design is dialed in, I prepare it for 3D printing with proper clearances, tolerances, and any needed revisions. I can print the part here in the shop, or send you the finished file if you would like to print it yourself.

Good Projects for 3D Part Design

  • Replacement clips, tabs, and plastic brackets
  • Knobs, buttons, and small controls for electronics or instruments
  • Mounts for cameras, lights, sensors, or small devices
  • Custom cable guides, strain reliefs, and protectors
  • Spacers, caps, covers, and little missing pieces on gear
  • Simple mechanical linkages, hinges, and adapters
  • Organizers and holders for tools, parts, or desk items
  • Small enclosures for electronics projects

What You Can Bring to Get Started

  • The broken or worn-out part, or the matching part from the other side
  • Basic measurements or dimensions, if you have already taken them
  • Photos of how the part is used or where it fits
  • Rough sketches, even pen-and-paper is fine
  • Links to similar parts or designs you have seen online
  • Notes about clearances, screw sizes, or anything it must not hit
  • Material or strength needs, such as holds weight, flexible, or heat-resistant
  • Existing 3D files you would like cleaned up or modified
If you can bring a part, some measurements, or even a rough sketch, I can usually turn it into a ready-to-print 3D model.

Design Ownership & Licensing

Plain English so you always know who owns what.

Standard, included with every project

  • Non-exclusive license: You get a perpetual, non-exclusive license to use the finished 3D models for your own projects or business, including printing parts yourself or through any print shop working on your behalf.
  • Design ownership: I retain copyright in the CAD files and 3D models I create. This lets me reuse general techniques in future projects unless we agree otherwise.
  • Easy reprints & tweaks: I keep a backup of your files so you can come back later for reprints or small adjustments without starting from scratch.
  • Portfolio use: I may use photos or renders of your parts in my portfolio. If you prefer a private project, just say so.
  • Selling or sharing design files: Not permitted under the standard license. You may not sell, publish, or distribute the design files themselves without a separate agreement.

Optional Upgrades

  • Exclusive rights / IP buyout: For products you plan to resell, I can transfer full ownership of the design. Custom quote based on complexity and scope.
  • Confidential / NDA projects: For sensitive work, I can sign your NDA and keep all files and photos out of public view.
  • Manufacturing-ready file package: Organized file bundle, usually STL/STEP, with clear naming and revision notes. Custom quote.
Note on OEM parts: When recreating parts originally made by another manufacturer, this licensing covers only my original CAD work, not the original manufacturer's trademarks, patents, or other protections.
